South Side Community Council - Live, Work, Play

Founded in 1939, the South Side Community Council gives a voice to the residents of the South Side Flats neighborhood and strengthens the community by celebrating and embracing its history and its arts and cultures. 

South Shore Riverfront Park

South Shore Riverfront Park is located in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood, nestled between SouthSide Works and the South Side Marina. The park trails serve as an important connection on the Great Allegheny Passage and Three Rivers Heritage Trail. In addition to the trails, the park features a concert stage, scenic overlook, river landing and boat dock.

Formerly a steel mill barge dock, the park was transformed into one of Pittsburgh’s most beautiful properties along the Monongahela River. Switchback terraces connect upper and lower plazas to create an exciting outdoor public space for recreation, relaxation and special events.

Three Rivers Heritage Trail

The Three Rivers Heritage Trail is a multi‑use riverfront trail system in the Pittsburgh region. This 24‑mile nonlinear trail has segments on both banks of Pittsburgh’s three rivers with access to city neighborhoods, business districts, and local attractions. The trail promotes a healthy lifestyle, is popular for recreation, and provides a safe route for commuters.

Citiparks South Side Farmers Market

The South Side Farmers Market is a producer-only farmers market with 11 vendors selling a wide variety of locally grown, nutritious, fresh fruits and vegetables, along with fresh baked goods, jams, herbs, cut flowers, shrubs, eggs, organic soap and prepared foods. 

Ormbsy Park & Recreation Center

Ormsby Recreation Center / Playground is a park, playground and sports complex located at South 22nd Street, a block from East Carson Street and adjacent to the South Side branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and Ormsby Recreation Center. The park is named in honor of Irish immigrant John Ormsby (1720-1805), who is called the “father” or “founder” of the South Side. Ormsby Park was created in the early 1900s.

ASCEND - Pittsburgh’s Indoor Rock Climbing

ASCEND Pittsburgh is bouldering-centric, indoor rock climbing gym with more than 10,000 SF of climbing walls housed in a 27,000 SF space at 2141 Mary Street. ASCEND also offers roped climbing on a 24-foot tall wall, cross-training, yoga and other various fitness classes. Visitors enjoy child care, concessions, locker rooms, and numerous spaces to relax, study or work.
